I love to work off site. After all, who comes to a church during the day on a weekday? If you’re scratching your head for an answer, it’s no one. And I have to be honest, I’m an extrovert and really need to be around people. One of my favorite off-site locations has to be Panera Bread. I used to fill up on the carbs but not so much anymore. I go more for the atmosphere. Let me explain.
First of all, there’s something about the smell of that place. Freshly baked bread has an amazing aroma. I love the smell of the steamy, hot, freshly baked deliciousness. There’s something about the smell that just draws me in. Then once you’re in the shop the smells continue – the coffee, the sweet smell of cinnamon rolls, the fresh pastries and soups. It’s all so delicious! Then add to this the warmth from the fireplace on a cool fall day and you have a recipe for excellence.
But there’s one more piece of the bread shop that I love. It’s the people. Whether it’s other customers or the staff, the sound of the people chattering and making their plans for the week ahead, makes the experience complete. Part of life as a Jesus follower is being around people. I love starting conversations with them about the food, the weather, or anything that comes up. The people are the reason!
Where do you go to be near people? What is your favorite place to be near people you don’t know? Being around people, any people, is an important part of your life. Find that place and go there when you can. Enjoy the people around you.
