The story in the Bible of Jesus walking on water is definitely one of those fun stories. I mean what kid doesn’t want to have some sort of super power like flying or even walking on water? This week we took time to dissect this account and show there several lessons embedded in this familiar narrative.

Some things of which you should make sure to take note:

Look at the times Jesus uses the word immediately. This is a key to show us how Jesus is always there when we need him most.

Jesus came to the disciples on the storm. No I didn’t make a typo there. ON the storm. He didn’t come in the storm but walking right on top of it. This shows the power of God in our storms but it also reminds us that sometimes God comes in and sometimes on the very thing we’re most afraid of in life.

Jesus doesn’t change his call on Peter’s life. When Jesus called Peter to follow him the first time, he said come. Here when Peter is stuck in the boat, Jesus again uses the same word – come.

Getting out of our boat means seeing where Jesus is and walking in his direction. So many people think it’s about getting out of their comfort zones. But that’s a short sighted view. We need to get out of our comfort zones and begin walking in the direction Jesus is calling us to go. If he’s not getting the glory, then we’re walking in the wrong direction.
