Well this is the second time I’ve used this song but it has special meaning for me today. You see yesterday we came back to church. We’ve been waiting for this day for weeks. Being displaced from something that is so important and so life changing is no fun. Being told you can’t do something that’s great for you because of a fear of something bad for you lurking in the shadows is a terrifying thing!

This weekend we entered back into our worship space for the first time as a family. We walked through the same doors we used to but this week had different meaning. We saw familiar faces as if they were brand new friends.

Many of our family members weren’t present in person but they were just as much there as the rest of us. They were worshiping the same God we were. They are just as much part of the church as those who walked through those doors this week.

I just can’t wait for us all to be in the same place at the same time for worship. It will be so wonderful to be able to sit shoulder to shoulder with fellow members of the body of Christ without fear or worry or anxiety.

But for now we long for God to take us back. Take us back to a place where it all began. Take us back to the people who’ve welcomed us when no one else would. Take us back to the feeling deep in our soul of grace and mercy and love and care for neighbor. This is where the church is at her best. Take me back there!
