Man life sometimes is pretty rough. There are so many pressures that the world heaps on our shoulders that it can be hard to make it some days. There are days when it feels like we’re carrying around a heavy pile of chains. The further we walk the heavier they get. Continue reading

I can remember as a child standing in a large, empty room and clapping my hands. I would do it to wait for the echo. I’m not sure why, but hearing an echo was so intriguing as a child. It was almost like there was something magical about an echo or like there was someone hidden in the room who was responding to me. But as I grew older I stopped caring as much about echoes. Maybe it’s because we’re so caught up in our own words that the echo seems less important. But perhaps an echo is exactly what is needed right now. Continue reading
Have you ever seen one of those Where’s Waldo books? The premise of the is to find a character on each page. The character is Waldo. He’s dressed in a red and white striped shirt and blue jeans with a stocking cap. Some of the pages are quite easy to find this little man hiding among the green trees. But other pages are almost impossible! I remember a page in a Where’s Waldo book from my childhood that had Waldo in his red and white striped outfit marching with thousands of others in a crowded city. These thousands of others were also wearing red and white stripes and playing instruments. Needless today that one took quite a while to find but I remember the great sense of accomplishment when I was actually able to see Waldo! Continue reading
This world has enough trouble to make even the strongest person cower in fear. From the political unrest to the economic ebbs and flows that bring financial concerns to just about everyone – there is no rest for the weary. It seems that everywhere we turn there’s another reason for us to be afraid. Just click on the news and you’ll hear of another child abducted into trafficking rings, a senseless murder, arson takes a home and all its possessions from a family, a training accident goes horribly wrong and claims the lives of innocents, wild fires sweep through the country and devastate residents. Continue reading
It’s easy at times in our lives to be discouraged but there’s a great reason for hope in this life. There are all kinds of statistics that cause great fear in the lives of the people of the church. In North America roughly 4000 churches close each and every year, while only 1000 new ones start. That’s a crazy statistic that appears as if the church is failing miserably in the world today. Continue reading
We’ve all heard the word and undoubtedly we have some image in our minds when we hear this word. Some of us think a large church building on a Sunday morning typically around 10am that meets for an hour. We hear a wonderful pipe organ. We’re sitting in hard wooden pews that are anything but comfortable. While others of us see more of an empty warehouse of sorts with stackable chairs that can be used for many different things. We hear loud music that is played on guitars and drums. Either way that’s really not the point of worship. Continue reading
Yesterday was a pretty big day in the church. If you’re a Jesus follower, then hopefully you heard mention of something called Pentecost yesterday. The long and short of Pentecost is that it was the time when God gave us his Holy Spirit. The disciples were in a house when a breeze blew through the home and a fire appeared on their heads. They then began to tell everyone what they believed about Jesus in many different languages. It’s a pretty cool account! Check it out in Acts. Continue reading
It’s no secret that this is likely the easiest piece but seemingly the most overlooked. We live in a day and age in which community is something that just isn’t all that important. Think about the last time you came home from a long day at work. If you’re like many in my neighborhood, you pull your car in and close the garage door before you even get out of your vehicle. We’ve taken human interaction out of the equation in much of what we do in our day-to-day lives. Continue reading
Yesterday in worship a little guy from our congregation wanted to sing a song. He’s done it before. Most of the songs he sings fall on the easy side. But yesterday he wanted to sing this song about sisters and brothers. It’s a great song and he did an amazing job. The message of the song is simple – let’s put away some of the differences and start living as sisters and brothers. Let’s start showing the world that we, as Christians are part of a family – a family of God. Continue reading
If you were at the church I pastor, Living Word Church, this past Sunday you might have heard something of three numbers. These numbers are very important to me and I pray they gain the same significance to those in the ministry I serve. Apart these three single digits are really not all that impressive nor important. But when you look at them together and see the impact that these three numbers can have, it’s truly nothing short of miraculous. Continue reading
