Ok so confession time. I’m a control freak. I love to know where things are going. I try to predict the future as often as I can. Not in that weird fortune-teller with a glass ball sort of way but I try to foresee problems and make a plan to overcome. I’m one of those type “A” personalities that probably is more of an “A+” at times! But sometimes we need to just let go of the wheel of our lives. Continue reading
Tag: prayer (Page 3 of 3)
Ever wonder why God leaves some prayers seemingly unanswered? Ever feel like you ask for things and just don’t get the answer you expected? Sometimes we treat prayer more like a slot-machine than a conversation. But how does God answer prayer anyway? Continue reading
Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been working our way through a book titled The Ways of The Alongsider: Growing Disciples Life2Life by Bill Mowry. Bill is a friend of mine whose passion is to see people grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus and to live out his way of life everyday. The idea of an Alongsider might be an uncommon thought to some of us, but he does a great job detailing at the outset of the book. Then as we moved deeper into our understanding of what an Alongsider was we hit two topics of great importance to discipleship: A Way of Life and Intentionality. Continue reading
Could you imagine someone approaching you and offering you anything you want? Think about it. You’re sitting at home, watching t.v. and the doorbell rings. When you answer it, you find a stranger there offering you anything you can think of. Have any thoughts yet? What is it that you want more than anything else? Continue reading
It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of the year, isn’t it? We’re already nearly midway through the last month of 2014. Before you know it, 2014 will be a thing of the past and we’ll be at the beginning of a new journey called 2015.
Starting this week, you’ll find some fatherly advice each Friday. Not fatherly in the sense that I’m acting as your dad, but some simple thoughts from a dad who’s learning as he’s living it. By no means do I know it all. As a matter of fact, I find myself messing up more frequently than I get it right. Continue reading
I’m so excited that the elections are over. And no, it’s not due to the election results. My excitement comes from no longer having to watch the ridiculous, and all too often slanderous, election commercials. I just don’t like to watch people point out the negatives about others instead of sharing what they’ll do to make a difference. Continue reading
We undoubtedly know about Halloween. Many of us will spend a little of our hard earned money to get some candy for the neighbor children who will come knocking. We might even get costumes for our own children to wear on this night of tricks and treats. But what is it really all about?
Well to properly understand Halloween we really need to see it in light of the three day event that it truly is. We don’t spend a lot of time talking about the other two days but they’re important to set the landscape of the holiday. Continue reading
I don’t usually post twice in one day but today is a bit different. This morning I was flooded with emotion and memories as I walked down the sidewalks of The Ohio State Medical Center Campus. I was there to pray with a man getting ready for surgery.
As I walked down the sidewalk and breathed in the cool fall air just after 6am, I remembered that 5 years ago to this day I was walking these exact same sidewalks. Continue reading
Want to know what works? It’s easy to sit back to be an armchair quarterback and have no skin in the game. But the real work happens when you put into action all the things you’ve been thinking and talking about.
I recently picked up a book written by a young lady who was trapped in a bad situation. Her young years were horrific. Then she began to believe that’s all she was worthy of receiving was horrible things. Her name is Polly, and she has an amazing story to tell. I’m not an emotional guy but I was emotionally wrecked as I turned through the pages of her book Cherished: Shattered innocence. Restored Hope. Continue reading
