The God Who Stays

We all like to play God from time to time. We pretend that we know better. We act as if our way would somehow be able to change the future. But have you ever realized that when other people act like that, we have choice words for them. We want to give up on people who don’t live like we do. We walk away from people who get on our nerves. When someone says something that isn’t what we want to hear, it’s easier to walk away than stick it out and talk through the problem.

Things Jesus never said “Everything will be good”

Growing up I went to church just about every Sunday. I didn’t have an option. My parents even made me acolyte (fun church word for light the candles). The pastor asked me to read the readings when no one else was around to do them. And over and over the message that was taught, often unknowingly, was that the more time we spent with Jesus the better our lives would become. This message has gotten so prevelant that pastors are preaching it and writing books about how to have our best life now with little mention of Jesus anywhere at all!

I Will Fear No More

Some days life is just flat hard. Things fill our minds that really have no place in us. We worry and grow anxious about some of the strangest things in life. We face health struggles, financial woes, relationship pains, and parenting trouble just to name a few. The more these things mount up in our lives, the less adequate we feel in life and the more we feel like failures. It’s far too easy to let the fear of these and many other things in life stop us from living the life we’ve been called to live. But we’ve been told to fear no more.
