Starting Now

I don’t know about you but it seems the more I know the more I realize I really don’t know all that much after all! I learn one thing and it has a tendency to undo something else I learned at another point in my life. Especially in today’s world when I learn about the things going on in our world and then the message changes, it’s just a swirling mess of noise anymore. So where do we start? How do we know what’s real and what’s not?

Bible Memorization

As some continue to stay in distanced situations and as still others are afraid of coming out of their homes and back into the general population, we need to find creative ways to dig deeper into the Bible. So how do we amp up our depth of spiritual awareness? How do we grow as followers of Christ when we aren’t doing life together for the time being?

Powerful Words

bible

The old adage is so wrong. Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me. I’m not sure who came up with that load of nonsense but they obviously lived in isolation from everyone their entire life. Words have power. Yours and mine! So be careful how you use them. But our words aren’t the most powerful words around. There’s a word with far more power.

Why Start New?

Over the past week or so I’ve had the chance to sit down with two different groups of people who are very interested in making a go at starting something new. For one reason or another God has laid it on their heart to lead a charge in starting a new worshipping community. But what would cause someone to go out on a limb and start something new? Why do something that’s so hard? Why not just keep things going the way they are?

Things Jesus never said “Everything will be good”

Growing up I went to church just about every Sunday. I didn’t have an option. My parents even made me acolyte (fun church word for light the candles). The pastor asked me to read the readings when no one else was around to do them. And over and over the message that was taught, often unknowingly, was that the more time we spent with Jesus the better our lives would become. This message has gotten so prevelant that pastors are preaching it and writing books about how to have our best life now with little mention of Jesus anywhere at all!

King of Kings

I recently stumbled accidentally across a song that has pretty much been on repeat for the last several days. This song isn’t fast. It’s not super loud or even upbeat but wow is it ever powerful! Hillsong has a way of crafting songs that hit the message of the bible perfectly! If you’ve ever wanted to know the story of Jesus but don’t know where to start in the bible, then this song might be a great place to begin.

Sometimes You Just Need To Speak Up

This week in worship it was time to get real. It was time to be honest, bold and hold nothing back. Our world is trying to rip the words of the Bible out of our hands. People are redefining terms to fit their agenda. And while all of this is happening, the church is sitting idly by minding its own business. But that has to end! And it has to end now. In this week’s message I spend a little time unpacking the reality of who we are as followers of Christ and what we’re supposed to be about in this life. We’ll look at a variety of ideals and how they are all impacted by God’s Word and design for life.

Different Drum

If you know me at all, you would probably say that I don’t always fit the norm. I tend to walk to the beat of a different drum. I don’t like to do things just because they’ve always been done that way. It’s been said that I don’t fit the normal mold. I’ve been told that I tend to think outside the box. Some have even said that with me the box doesn’t exist. All this is to say that I’m unique, and sometimes unique can be distracting but other times unique is a really good thing.  Continue reading

The Hurt And The Healer

The Hurt And The Healer Sometimes the pains in life are just too much to bear. There are days when we’re just not sure we’re going to make it. Maybe you have worked more hours than you though humanly possible. Maybe you have so much going on in your classes that you’re not sure how you’ll ever keep up. Perhaps your health isn’t what you thought it should be. Maybe you’re lonely and in need of someone with whom you can share your life.  Continue reading
