It’s Christmas Eve! Tonight is the night when the children will all be snuggled in their beds. They’ll have a hard time sleeping as they await the coming of Christmas morning. But tonight should be a Silent Night.
This night before Christmas morning is a time for us to just sit back and rest in the quiet for a change. Christmas Eve is that night when everything slows down. It’s the night when the lights on the tree are lit, the children are laying in beds, the packages are wrapped, and we’re typically just beat!
But all of those things, as important as they are, really don’t help us that much. They only add to the confusion of this Christmas time. Admittedly the first Christmas probably wasn’t all that quiet. Think about it for a minute – a pregnant mom is about to give birth, angels tell shepherds to find this baby, the shepherds come running in followed by their sheep. It was likely anything but quiet. The sheep calling out. The shepherds panting as they ran. Mary and Joseph laughing and crying as they meet their newborn son. The town all a bustle as the rooms were all filled with people registering for taxes. It was a crazy night!
But into that crazy night broke a silence that indescribable. It was a silence that was so powerful that it drowned out the noise. It was a silence that brought with it a peace that just couldn’t be stopped. It was almost as if nothing could break this silence. This is my wish for you this Christmas. My prayer for you is that you find a silence and peace that this world cannot steal. May tonight be for you a silent night.
So this Christmas Eve sit back, rest your feet, listen to the joy of this season. Find comfort in this Silent Night.
