As you are probably well aware, Christmas is about a week and a half away. With all of the prep for the big day, it’s pretty easy to get a bit lost in the shuffle. This week we’re going to slow things down quite a bit and take a minute to celebrate the beauty of this precious season.

This week’s song is an old one but nothing it certainly doesn’t leave you wanting for anything. The story, the melody, the beauty of its message are all there. Give it a listen this week then scroll down for a little explanation and devotion.

The song is Silent Night and the words are probably some of the most peaceful words you can hear. Silent Night, Holy Night, all is calm, all is bright. The words paint for us a picture of peace and tranquility. They give us the image that we have been taken out of this world and into a new place without the fears and worries that we face today. Silent Night, Holy Night…there’s something different about that night…about that place.

Where do you go for that peace and quiet? This is you own personal silent night. The song sings of the Savior’s birth. It proclaims in a calm and quiet manner the wonders of the birth of a child. While I’ve never known a birth to be silent and calm, the birth of this child had the ability to quiet the forces of evil. NO matter how hard they try evil can’t get in a single word in the face of the power and majesty of this baby born on that silent night.

The same God who was able to quiet the forces of evil now promises to live inside of you and me. The same God who broke the noise of this world with his still small voice is the same God who is with you today. Take a moment and give thanks to God for the quiet. Sit for just a few second (or longer if you can) and value the silence. It has a way of rebooting our minds and getting us back on track again.

Find joy and peace in the silent moments. May the joy of this season fill you.
