Our first sermon series of the year is about losing more of ourselves so that we can get more of Jesus. We typically start our year with resolutions and goals and empty promises. But if you’re like most of America, you’ve already given up on those resolutions and replaced them with the same old way of doing life.

We are working with the idea that these resolutions fail because they are too much about ourselves. When we focus on ourselves, then we’re less likely to every be content with the results of our actions. So we grow tired of trying. We throw in the towel and give up way too early, long before any real life change can occur.

In week three of the message we speak to the idea of growth. We look at the best and fastest way to grow. And contrary to popular belief, that growth happens best when we give things away. That means…

The more we give the more we grow. #selfless #givetogrow #livingwordgalena #livethestory Share on X

In this message we look at three different mindsets for giving. We look at approaching life as though we’re carrying a bag, a basket or a barn. The first and most common way to look at life is like we’re holding a bag. Picture one of those grocery sacks that has a hole in it. You keep piling things in it but it never fills because it all falls out the bottom of the bag! The second is the basket, and just like the feeding of the 5,000 the more we give away, the more full the baskets become! Finally, we focused on a prophecy from the Old Testament where God tells us to test him in his promises and he’ll send so much blessing we can’t even hold it in our storehouses – or barns!

That’s a huge shift in thinking! The more we hold for ourselves the less we have but the more we give away the more we actually have!
