One of my favorite bands has to be Rend Collective. Their style is just so unique and fun. One of their most recent songs is titled Rescuer. It’s a straight up gospel song. You can’t mix this message up. There’s only one thing they’re talking about and that’s Jesus. He alone is our rescuer. 

Through the song we walk through the realization that Jesus has rescued us once for all time. The message of the cross while it seems totally ridiculous for the world, is actually the most freeing message of all time. It means strength for those who are weak, beauty for the blind, a melody for those who can’t hear. The message of Christ has rescued us from anything and everything that could possibly trap us. Even death is no match for the rescue we have in Christ.

This Music Monday take a moment and just pause. Take a breath. Where did that come from? Yep, it was free for you! Now feel your heart beating. What did you do to make that happen? That’s right nothing there either! In the lyrics to this song, there is found an invitation to find rescue. Rescue from the ills of the world, rescue from the hurts that others inflict on us. Rescue from the stress of money and the brokenness of relationships. While Jesus won’t make us rich or make our spouse more loving, following him puts everything in perspective.

Rescue in Christ means that my darkness isn’t as dark as I thought. It means my pain one day will have an end. It means that even when I don’t have two nickels to rub together, I’m still guaranteed an inheritance greater than I can imagine.
