Have you ever loved someone who didn’t love you back the same way? Maybe it was that cute girl in High School or that guy you just got all starry eyed about. You loved them but didn’t know how to show or even say it. So you kept it inside waiting for them to make the first move. But it never happened. You loved but felt like you were invisible or worse yet rejected. Not much consolation but you’re not alone in this feeling!

This past Sunday was Palm Sunday. That’s the Sunday when we celebrate Jesus being welcomed and celebrated in Jerusalem. It was a day filled with fanfare and praise. It was a day of joy and loud shouts of Hosanna! But how quickly those shouts changed. They went from King him to crucify him! Their love was cheap. Their acceptance was shallow. He loved them but they didn’t love him back!

How we understand God’s love for us will shape how we love others. Jesus loved us when we weren’t lovable. He loved us when we were his enemies. He loved us when we hated him or were at minimum ambivalent toward him. But his love is perfect, and perfect love always pursues! That’s right Jesus’ love for you will pursue you no matter how far you run or where you end up. Today I pray you know that you are pursued by the God who gave it all up for you!
