We all have a story to tell. What’s yours? With the news hitting recently about all of the devastation and destruction and evil hitting our world, it’s probably a good time to focus on the story that makes us who we are.
It’s easy to get caught up in the hubbub of evil that is so prevalent around us these days. It’s easy to let the terror and destruction strike fear to our innermost being. It’s easy to let these things stop us from living the lives we were called to live. But that’s not our story!
My call in life is to be pastor of a wonderful group of people whose mission it is to live God’s story, following Christ together. The foundation of this mission is the realization that God’s word is a story, a true story of a Father’s love for his people. It’s a story that didn’t end when the last word was written however. It’s a story that is still being lived out today. It’s a story that includes your name and mind. It’s a story that has completely changed the meaning of these terror-filled events. This story is the story that Big Daddy Weave sings about in this week’s song.
If I told you my story, you wouldn’t see me at all. Actually the story of my life is a story that’s best seen in the sacrifice of the one who lived and died for me. My story is one of life winning in the face of death. It’s a story of forgiveness and grace when I deserve nothing but punishment. It’s a story of love when all I do is hate. It’s a story of courage when I would rather fear. It’s a story of open arms that embrace me when I’m alone.
This is my story. It’s the story that has called me and drawn me in. This is our story. It’s the story we live because of God’s grace and mercy that calls us. If I told you my story, I hope this is what you would hear.
What a great story, Pastor! Keep on telling it! Thanks be to God!
