Since Christmas is by all appearances behind us, I thought it important to post another Christmas song this week. Actually, Christmas is a season. It’s not just a single day. I’m sure that if you drive through your neighborhood tonight, you’ll likely see trees disposed by the curb, lights removed, and extra garbage by the curb. But it’s important that as followers of Jesus, we keep Christmas going! This week’s song will hopefully do just that – keep Christmas going!
I’ve not heard this song much on the radio but I really like the message it brings. It doesn’t hurt any that it’s by Toby Mac who happens to be a pretty great artist. The message of the song reminds us of that powerful night. It started out like any other night but ended up pretty exciting!
If you’ve heard the Christmas story, you probably know that after seeking a place to stay Mary and Joseph finally were allowed a place to rest in a stable in Bethlehem. Not the greatest of accommodations but it worked. They just needed a place to kick back and rest. Or so they thought. But that night was anything but restful. As the story unfolds on the pages of scripture, you’ll remember that Jesus was born that night. The heavens opened, strange visitors filled the stable where they found themselves seeking rest. And we’re still peering into that manger scene to this day. We’re still recalling these events some 2000 years later!
Mary’s Boy Child is a reminder that not just any child was born that day. It was a special child. It had to be a boy because he was to be a king. It had to be a special night because the story predicted it to happen in just that manner. Hark now hear the angels say! Do you hear them? They’re trying to tell you the story. They’re calling out to you to share the message of this baby’s birth. Listen as they call.
