It’s here! The official start of the pre-Christmas season that we in church world call Advent. The word basically means preparing for something big. It’s the idea of anticipation and excitement. So as we prepare for Christmas throughout this Advent season, we’re going to look at different Christmas songs and talk about our Christmas traditions. In an effort to do this we’ll start this week with a Music Monday titled Little Merry Christmas that shows how our traditions should all point to one important truth.
In our house, we start with putting up the tree and decorating the mantel and putting up some minimal decorations outside. We try to make sure our focus this time of year is the reason for the celebrations we hold. We make sure that plenty of nativity scenes are placed throughout the home. The purpose of this little holiday we call Christmas is pretty important! You see Christ is all over the place in the Christmas season! The tree is an evergreen because it’s always alive – just like Jesus. The lights are bright and colorful just like the presence of Christ in our lives is bright and brings joy to our day.
So what are your Christmas traditions? What does your tree look like? How can you see Jesus in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season?
As we kick off Advent this week, take a moment to look for Christ in the Christmas season. See him in the lights. Feel the warmth of his love through the friendships and family gatherings we have. And make sure to have a Little Merry Christmas!
