As followers of Jesus we often overlook a huge part of what the bible promises for our lives today. We talk a lot about things like the story of creation, the flood, the burning bush, Jesus’ baptism, His death and resurrection. But truth be told, as important as these are, the key to what Jesus promises us today is His Holy Spirit.
Perhaps it’s because we can’t see it. Maybe it’s because we used to call it the Holy Ghost and that just sounds creepy. I don’t really know why we don’t give the Spirit more face time in our lives as Jesus followers. Jesus tells us that he must leave in order for him to send to us the counselor, helper, advocate.
Now think about that for a few minutes. The Holy Spirit of God wants to live inside us. He wants to be out helper. He wants to be a part of our everyday lives in a way that makes a difference. He wants to be our comforter. In those times when life just flat stinks the Holy Spirit wants to be there to hold our hand and comfort us through it. He wants to speak up on our behalf when things in life just go terribly wrong. He wants to take our pain and sorrow and restore us to a healthy and strong lifestyle again.
Holy Spirit – even though we don’t always act like it, you are welcome here. We need you to be with us in our everyday moments. Flood our lives with your burning passion. Ignite a fire within us that can’t be put out. Simply put, we need to be overcome like the disciples were with the power and presence of the Spirit of God.
