While driving home from vacation a few weeks ago, I had the chance to listen to The Message on Sirius/XM. They were having one of their artist spotlights. As I listened to the story behind the song, I began to think that these songs all tell stories about our daily lives. For the next several weeks we’ll look at some of the more popular songs that tell a story about our day-to-day lives.
The song Hello My Name Is, by Matthew West is a great song. If you listen to the words really thinking about what they mean, you’ll likely agree that you’ve probably been there. In that place that he describes. We all wear name tags every day. Whether they’re the ones we put on ourselves or the ones that others put on us. Name tags!
But these name tags don’t give the real impression of who we are or what we’re about. Actually these name tags focus on the image that other people see in us. Most of the time these name tags are given after we mess up. Because that’s what the world sees most often – our mistakes, failures, blunders, problems.
But how much time do you give to your name tag? Do you listen to the labels that the world puts on you? If you do, then take a listen to this song – Hello My Name Is… It’s a great reminder that we are not what the world says we are. As a matter of fact in Christ we’re so much more. We’re not marked by our faults but rather by his successes. So quit fretting over the labels of the world. Some of them you won’t be able to do anything about anyway. Live the life that God has called you to live and trust him for the only name tag that really matters – Child of the one true God.
