With school back in full swing, I’m reminded of this week’s song. It’s a song that reminds of a few people who really wear their faith on their sleeve. They don’t shove it down your throat but they aren’t afraid to be a Christian and love people because they have a heart that’s been changed.

As a dad, there’s little that can make my heart fill with more joy than to hear my children speaking of their faith. They aren’t afraid to tell people they go to church. They’re not ashamed to let people know that they have something called faith and that this faith makes a difference in their lives.

The song Guilty comes from the movie God’s Not Dead. And as far-fetched as it may seem to some that a school would try to pull off some of the things in this movie, it happens probably more than you’d think. So this week, I wonder do you know the reason for the hope that you have?

Peter reminds us in the Bible to always be prepared to give the reason for the hope that we have. As Christians we’re ready with the name of Jesus. We might even know a bible verse or a line from some cool author or theology book, but rarely do we focus on the reason! Peter doesn’t say be prepared to tell them what you believe, or even in whom you believe but why you believe.

You see people don’t really care what you know. They don’t care how many bible verses you can quote or how much theological jargon you can spit out. They want to know your heart. What makes you tick? Why do you do what you do? When you can answer these questions, there will be a peace inside of you even in the midst of the moments when  your faith is challenged. Stay the course friends.

And to my children, I couldn’t be more proud of the examples of faith you are becoming. It’s not about the name you carry but the way you love God and love others. Keep loving well and the light of Christ will shine from you in a way that no one can put out.
