A band that has found a spot on my playlist a lot lately is the group I AM THEY. This week’s MusicMonday is about the places where God finds us. All too often we approach church life and life in Christ as if we need to arrive before we get there. It’s like we think we need to shed the junk of our lives before coming to meet Jesus. There is so much flawed in this thinking! There is so much wrong in this approach to life that it’s almost impossible to write about it all! The short version is this…

You can’t come to Jesus on your own. You can’t do enough good to arrive at a right place with God. You can’t earn this thing we in church call grace. You can’t even ask for forgiveness without a nudging of the Spirit of God. It’s pretty amazing what God does. He sets the bar high and holds everyone account able to that standard. The standard is perfection by the way! This is the starting point of the song. God demands perfect and I am far from it! So from the day I came to know who God was and what He did for me, I was in awe and I will remain in awe!

From the day Jesus came into my life (not me come into his) he changed everything for me. He’s the reason I do what I do and say what I say. He’s the reason I come alive when I talk about the bible. From the day I had that new beginning in me I became a different person. I’m not longer who I was because from the day I came to know him, I realized that even though his standard is perfect. His grace covers us so we’re seen as perfect, even though we’re very flawed.

Maybe you’re not a Jesus kind of person. Maybe you’ve been going through the motions for a while now. What was your life like without him? Where did he meet you? Where is he wanting to meet you? Then when you realize that he’s found you and recognize he’s been pursuing you all along, then you like the band I AM THEY can sing this song with as much energy as you can muster!
