The idea of a storm is often an intriguing thought. There’s something mesmerizing about sitting through a rain storm. As the drops tick on the roof, the wind begins to pick up speed causing the siding on your house to flex with the increased pressure. Storms are often fun and exciting especially when the grass and other vegetation needs the rain. But when the storms pick up and the alerts begin to sound the intrigue of the storm changes to concern and sometimes fear.
This is the way life often works as well. The rain drops and gentle breezes of life are bearable. They might be a nuisance but they’re not dangerous. They might make us slow down but truly they are not a real problem. The problem comes in when the rain starts to increase and the winds start to blow harder. The problem comes when we’re unable to see what’s right in front of us anymore.
Life has its storms. Health problems, job loss, relationship struggles, loved ones fighting battles with cancer, parents getting divorced, too much pressure at work – whatever the cause of the storm they can be overwhelming. When these problems mount in our lives, it’s tempting to throw in the towel. The tears flow down our faces with the pain of letting someone down. Our hearts ache for a loved one who we believe died too young. We are angry because we believe we deserve better.
I don’t know what you’re facing, but I know it doesn’t have to overtake you. I’m not sure the battle that’s being waged in your daily life, but I do know that you’re not alone as you walk through this storm. This morning take about 4 minutes and listen to the song Eye of the Storm by Ryan Stevenson. It’s a great reminder that even in the center of life’s most challenging moments, God is completely and totally in control. So the next time a storm rages in your life, take shelter in the arms of Jesus. He is ready to walk with you through it all.
