Some days we just need to be reminded of the amazing things that surround us. It’s so easy to overlook the good stuff. It’s easy to take things for granted. It’s way too easy to get so caught up in the everyday things of life that we forget the stuff that really matters. This morning we want to slow things down a bit and be reminded of the reason why we do things we do as followers of Jesus.
We don’t do it because we have to. We don’t offer God our praises so that he will look at us with favor or so that he’ll save us. Instead we do it because he already has done these things! We offer him this praise because he is the one who did it all already.
The second verse is pretty powerful – You Father the orphan, Your kindness makes us whole. And you shoulder our weakness and your strength becomes our own. If you look at these words closely you’ll see something powerful and strong. God is the one who seeks to adopt us as his children. The powerless are empowered. The fatherless are shown the love of a father who cares for them. When we’re falling apart, just trying to put our life pieces back together again, we are invited to rest in his kindness. When we just can’t carry the load of life any longer, he steps in to take the load from our shoulders.
Take a few minutes today to just sit back and take a slow, deep breath. Breathe in through your nose and back out through your mouth very slowly and calmly. As you do this, let your body relax. When your muscles start to relax know that even when you’re not doing anything, your Father is right there with you. He’s done all that needs done to save you. He’s standing guard. He’s carrying the pieces. He’s holding tight and never letting go.
This is the reason that his praise will ever be on my lips, and I hope it’s the reason it will be on yours as well.
