This week we begin our journey through a time in Jesus’ life known as Holy Week. It’s also been called his passion. This week is marked by his acceptance one and betrayal/death another. This week shows us how quickly we change our point of view. This week is a time to reflect on the inconsistency of humanity and the consistency of God.
As we consider the consistency of God this week, we look at some of the characteristics he employs. He is devoted. His love for us demonstrates his devotion even when tested and tried by our wayward actions. His vow is to love us unconditionally. His love is unending. Trials and challenges that we introduce into the relationship don’t scare him off nor do they affect his love for us.
We recognize that God always has been and always will be faithful to us. True, there may be times in our lives when we can’t see him right away. There could be times when he seems distant or far removed. But these are the times we are so wrapped up in some situation in life that we can’t see that he’s been there the whole time.
Now this is where the Ever Be comes into play. Once we realize all of this, we’ll have nothing left but praise for him. His praise will ever be on our lips. We’ll see him in the sunshine and in the rain. We’ll see him in the pain and in the healing. We’ll see him even in our loneliness and struggles.
He’s the anchor that holds us from swaying when the waves of life come crashing in upon us. I know life can be challenging. I know that when temptations hit, it’s easy to give in to their allure. I know the pain of betrayal. I know the sorrow of loss. I know the feeling of loneliness. But I also know that through it all, there’s nothing I can do except remember that God will ever be. He’ll ever be with me. He’ll ever be for me. He’ll ever be my God. And that’s why, his praise will ever be on my lips.
