This morning we’re less than two weeks away from Easter. Over the next fourteen days we’ll journey with Jesus through some of the most difficult times in his earthly life. He’ll be accepted, then rejected and betrayed. He’ll be accused, tried in a bogus trial, beaten, mocked, ridiculed, forced to carry his own instrument of torture, then killed. He’ll be buried, and when it seems as if all help is lost be raised.
But why? Why did he do it? He did it for those of us who have a hard time getting life right. Perhaps you are the kind who likes to do things the right way but for some reason or another you just can’t live the perfect life you’ve always wanted. He did it to bring healing to those who are hurting and help for the helpless. He did it for those who just don’t have it all together.
This is the message of the church, or at least it should be the message of the church. Unfortunately we’ve given the impression over time that we’re the ones who are right and the world is all wrong. In the church, we’ve sadly led the world to believe that Jesus came for those of us in the church, but that’s just not true. Jesus came for those who don’t know the way. He came for the lost, the hurting, the broken, the afflicted, the tormented, the sick, the distressed. He came for all mankind in order to show them a different kind of life.
This song is an invitation for the church to be the carrier of this message of Jesus. We pray in this song for Jesus to come. We pray that he will help us live the right kind of life while we wait for his return. We’re like a bride waiting on the groom. We wait with eager anticipation for the return of Christ. We cling to this good news and are given the mission sharing it where we live, work, and play.
Even So Come! We wait for you Jesus.
