Growing up I was taught that the Devil was a scary creature with horns on his head, a pitch fork in his hand and a long spiky tail. I was taught that he looked like a monster that was out to scare us. I knew that if I saw him, I could just run away and hide because honestly who wears a red suit and always yells and screams at everyone?
But as I grew up and got a little older and hopefully a little wiser I started to realize that this is likely not the way he operates. I mean if his goal is to tempt, lie, deceive and get you to believe things that aren’t true then he probably isn’t going to look scary. He probably looks like something interesting. He probably looks like something that is good. And then when he gets you to trust the innocent look he starts to push the envelope a little and leads you to believe small lies, then bigger ones and eventually you’ve fallen off the map!
This week’s Music Monday is a fun song by Jonny Diaz called Define Me. The gist of the song is that the lies of the Devil don’t define us. Our budget doesn’t define us. The image in the mirror, no matter what we think of it, that doesn’t even define us. WE have the power because of Christ in us to stare Satan right in the face and tell him that he’s lost. He doesn’t define us. Lies won’t sway the truth we hold true.
My favorite line from this song goes like this.
Your threats are as empty as Jesus' grave. So devil go get behind me you do not define me. Jonny Diaz Share on XSo today stand tall. Be confident in the person God has created you to be and know that the one who began a good work in you will bring it to completion in Christ. You are defined by what Christ has done for you!
