It’s been said that only two things are certain in life – death and taxes. But really only one thing if we’re being honest. You can adjust your deductions and even lose your job and your tax situation will change drastically. But you can’t escape the reality of death. It happens all around us. It sees as if death is knocking at the door of so many of our lives and we are having a hard time determining how to handle it.

So what’s your hope in the most uncertain of times?

The answer for those who call themselves followers of Jesus is quite simply – Christ. Christ is our only hope in the most certain and uncertain of times. One thing should be true in the current situation in which we live. The church should keep a constant voice and a steady footing. We should not have a different message now than before. Our focus should remain the same.

I’ll be the first to admit the change in how we do what we do was a bit mind-boggling and overwhelming for me. But what we do hasn’t changed. We still preach Christ living, dying, rising. We still are an Easter type of church. We still gather on Sunday mornings just we do it in our homes. We still are fed on the truth of the Bible as we worship and study together. We still raise our children on the solid teaching of Jesus as the way, the truth and the life.

So the long and short is that this whole physical distancing business hasn’t changed the most fundamental things we do in church life. We are still here. We’re here online. We’re here by phone. We’re here in prayer. We’re here through many other virtual means as well. And we’re even looking at a few more creative ways to be around in the coming weeks…so stay tuned for that one.

But for now remember our only hope in these times is Christ.
