I can remember as a child standing in a large, empty room and clapping my hands. I would do it to wait for the echo. I’m not sure why, but hearing an echo was so intriguing as a child. It was almost like there was something magical about an echo or like there was someone hidden in the room who was responding to me. But as I grew older I stopped caring as much about echoes. Maybe it’s because we’re so caught up in our own words that the echo seems less important. But perhaps an echo is exactly what is needed right now. Continue reading

I lift my life, lift my life up
I give it all in surrender
I lift my heart, lift my heart up
You can have it forever. Continue reading
The Lord’s Prayer is a pretty powerful tool for many Christians. We pray it and often don’t really give it much thought whatsoever. Some of those words that we pray go like this thy kingdom come, thy will be done… What does it mean for God’s kingdom to come? Continue reading
It’s become increasingly evident that there’s a problem in the world today. There appears to be an issue that many people are facing, often without realizing!
Try this once, take a look in the mirror. What do you see? Describe it, but not in terms of features rather describe yourself in terms of value, image, and worth. This is not a matter of pride nor is it conceited to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you’re worth it. Actually, it’s kind of biblical if you really think about it. What an embarrassing moment that was! Not too long ago, I was trying to get out the door to a store. I walked up to the door, admittedly not paying attention to what was in front of me. I grabbed the handle and pushed the door. It didn’t open, so I pushed a little harder. Then I jiggled the handle.
Wouldn’t you know it…the door was a pull door! I was so embarrassed that I can’t even put it into words. My face turned red. I played it off as if it was no big deal, but that didn’t change the fact that I missed the big red sign right in front of me that said PULL. Continue reading
It’s so easy to listen to the voices around you. It’s easy to hear what the world says to and about you. Over the past several months I’ve gotten to know a few people who for some reason believe the words the hear screamed at them from behind the mirror. This song is dedicated to them. This #musicmonday post is dedicated to those special people in my life who think they’re not enough, that they have to look prettier or act better – that they’ll never measure up. Continue reading
The idea of a storm is often an intriguing thought. There’s something mesmerizing about sitting through a rain storm. As the drops tick on the roof, the wind begins to pick up speed causing the siding on your house to flex with the increased pressure. Storms are often fun and exciting especially when the grass and other vegetation needs the rain. But when the storms pick up and the alerts begin to sound the intrigue of the storm changes to concern and sometimes fear. Continue reading
Yesterday was a pretty fun day! I have to be honest that I don’t say that very frequently. Yesterday was Sunday and at the church I serve, we held worship outside. And it was just plain fun. We had a great time just enjoying each other’s company. The weather was hot but when we thought we’d burn up the breeze blew through our worship pavilion. We sang some songs that to some might seem a bit silly. We did motions that forced us to raise our hands and even dance a little. And if you don’t know anything about the church tradition to which I belong that’s a fairly big deal! Continue reading
This past week I had the privilege of visiting the city of New Orleans with some pretty amazing people. There were 11 of us total from the congregation I serve, but we met up with a larger group. It was a great of over 25,000 people from around the world! The vast majority of these 25,000 people were high school youth who descended upon the streets of New Orleans for one purpose – to learn and to live Jesus. Continue reading
On Friday night last week, I had the wonderful privilege of meeting 35 people who took to the streets of Columbus on their bicycles as part of a SpokeFolk tour 2016. They ride around 40-50 miles a day and stay in churches, schools, and just about anyplace that will allow them to overnight. They don’t require a whole lot of amenities as they “shower” in the garden hose on the back lawn! They sleep on the floor in whatever space is available. They are great! Continue reading
