What do you think of when you hear the word church? Do you think of a building, or a comfortable home, or maybe when you hear church you think of an obligation every Sunday. However, church has a different meaning. For years I lived believing that church was a building where I worshipped God. But church isn’t about a building with four walls and a roof. Once I was told that church was anywhere where two or more are gathered to worship Jesus. I believed that definition for a while, but now I disagree. Continue reading

Ready To Be Myself

If we’re being honest, we’ve all tried to change the way we look or act to fit in and be like a certain group. Sometimes it may feel like you have a dozen personalities to fit each group but none of them really feel like you. So often we become someone we are not meant to be just to be loved by the people of the world. Maybe no one sees through the face you put on. Occasionally a really good friend will be able to notice you aren’t yourself. However, God notices every time. Continue reading

Grace Wins

Grace. This is a word that has been used in churches for years. Only recently did I discover what it meant and how it affected lives. Grace is getting the good you don’t deserve. For example, because of our sinful nature we deserve death, but Jesus died and we can spend eternity in heaven with Him. We deserve death, but instead we get eternal life with Jesus, that’s grace. Still

When was the last time you sat still for a few minute? If we’re being honest, sitting still is difficult for many of us who we don’t do it often. Being still is especially difficult for those of us who like to be in control. We all face giants in life. Some of them are giants in the form of people who are just larger than life who seem to be better than us at everything. Then there are the giants of our work load from which we just can seem to dig out. Other giants can be our finances or our diet or even our exercise regimen. Whatever the giant, there’s hope for you as you face your giants.  Continue reading

Gracefully Broken

As we begin a New Year today, I have to let you in on a struggle. The struggle is that I start each year with the best of intentions. I spend time reading my bible reading plan, but have a hard time making it through the entire year. My desire fades part way through the year. I find myself running on autopilot by the middle of summer. Then by the end of the year, I’m simply hanging on for dear life!  Continue reading

Breath of Heaven

Have you ever thought about what the first Christmas was like? So many different people were involved in the story, and each bring a new perspective. Today I would like to focus on Christmas from Mary’s perspective. What was it like to have been chosen by God? Mary must have been filled with hundreds of emotions ranging from joy to fear. This weeks Music Monday represents what I imagine Mary was feeling that first Christmas. Continue reading

Breathe, No Really Breathe!

It’s that time of year again; the month of December is a busy one for most people. For many people December is filled with the stresses of end of the year work assignments and projects, exams for students, meal planning and preparations, shopping and making sure everyone on your list has a Christmas gift, and of course looking forward to what next year has to bring. Our lives have become so busy and we’re constantly on the go. When do we make time for Jesus during this busy Christmas season. Afterall, it is all about Him. Continue reading
