This summer has been dedicated to stories of water in the bible for our children in summer Sunday School and Children’s Worship. We’ve been looking at stories of everything from Noah and the ark to Moses parting the Red Sea. Soon we’ll be looking at Peter walking on water, undoubtedly one of my favorite stories that involves Peter and Jesus! Continue reading

Growing up I was taught that the Devil was a scary creature with horns on his head, a pitch fork in his hand and a long spiky tail. I was taught that he looked like a monster that was out to scare us. I knew that if I saw him, I could just run away and hide because honestly who wears a red suit and always yells and screams at everyone? Continue reading
This week we started a new series in our worship at Living Word Galena. It’s a study all about the book Song of Songs. While the words of this book are pretty raw, it has a powerful message for all of us. I’m using this week’s Music Monday as a response to that raw yet powerful message. Continue reading
There are days in life when reality strikes you square between the eyes. Days when your past catches up to you. Days when your struggles become all too real. There are days when moments turn to eternity as you feel the pain of regret and shame. There are days when you look in the mirror and can’t believe the person you’ve become. Days when all hope seems lost. Continue reading
Some days in life are those should have, would have, could have kind of days. You know the days when you look back and realize you should have done something different. You could have done it completely in a different way. And I you had a chance you’d go back and do that part of your life over again you most certainly would not do it the same way again! Recently a friend asked me what my favorite bible verse was. Now that admittedly is a difficult task, especially for a pastor. We have so many bible verses floating through our minds. So many of them with significant meaning. I mulled this over for weeks. Probably longer. But eventually it hit me. The one verse that just jumped off the page was right there the entire time. It was a verse that had meaning to my uncle who was a pastor. It was a verse spoken at his funeral. It’s a verse in one of my favorite hymns. Continue reading
One of my favorite bands has to be Rend Collective. Their style is just so unique and fun. One of their most recent songs is titled Rescuer. It’s a straight up gospel song. You can’t mix this message up. There’s only one thing they’re talking about and that’s Jesus. He alone is our rescuer. Continue reading
Loneliness sucks. There’s no easy way to put it. We sometimes will sit in our homes, or in our dorms, or in our cubicle at work and realize that we’re alone. And sometimes that loneliness pushes beyond the moments when we’re physically without company to the times when we’re with others but still feel disconnected. Continue reading
Our culture tells us that being reckless is a back thing. When you’re reckless, you generally are not cautious. You throw caution to the wind and just go out and things without thinking about the ramifications of your actions. You cross the street without looking. You spend without checking your account balance. You schedule a meeting without looking at your calendar. You drive whatever speed you choose without caring about the speed limit. These are reckless behaviors that could end with some not so good results! Continue reading
Undeserving. It’s a simple word that pretty much sums up a large portion of my life. There are so many pats of my life that are simply more than I deserve. If I’m being honest what I deserve isn’t really worth talking about but what I have is worth bragging about to everyone. I mean think about life for a minute. How many people have we let down and failed? Yet for some reason they still care about us. Continue reading
