Leadership development has been a topic of conversation in just about every area of life for some time. According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary, leadership is defined as the office or position of a leader, capacity to lead and the act or instance of leading. Unfortunately none of these definitions really give us a clear picture of what a good leader looks like or how they live or what they do. Our goal in this post is to dive into what a leader looks like and how we as leaders can develop more leaders who can make a greater impact on the world around us.

What causes someone who at one point believed in Jesus to up and turn away? What causes a Jesus follower to no longer follower but reject? So I read on in his post.

Once upon a time I was that guy who heard a powerful speaker and came back to try to do much of what the other person did. But that’s just not a good idea. It’s not healthy at all! Night to Shine

I’ve been holding onto some news for about a week now and it’s just eating me up, so I have to let you all in on a little (ok maybe not so little) secret. This past week I was made aware that the church I pastor has been selected to be a host site for the 2020 Night to Shine. This event will take place at Living Word Galena on February 7, 2020! If you’re unfamiliar with Night to Shine, it’s a powerful experience that’s organized by the Tim Tebow Foundation where students with special needs get a prom all their own. They get to dance, sing, take pictures, be the stars they are and in the end they’ll be crowned Kings and Queens of the prom! It’s an amazing experience! Just check out this video.

Telescopes and Magnifying Glasses

Do you look at problems through a magnifying glass or a telescope?

I was never a science type growing up. I mean I used a magnifying glass from time to time but not to look at molecules and see them up close but to concentrate the heat from the sun and burn leaves and yes even the occasional ant or spider. But this isn’t about burning bugs, today we’re going to look at the way we look at problems in our lives. Do we look at our problems through a magnifying glass or a telescope?

I Think I Can

Growing up many of us read the kids’ book The Little Engine That Could. This story is one of encouragement and confidence. The moral of the story is that this little engine believed he could accomplish the massive task in front of him. It was a mountain of a task, pun intended! You see he had to pull a loaded train over a tall mountain and no one was willing to help him. Instead of throwing in the towel and giving up, he dug deep and saw the mountain one revolution of his little wheels at a time. The book is filled with his never ending chorus – I think I can.

Church It’s Time To Wake Up!

This article struck a cord in my heart so I thought it might be something worth diving into here on the blog. Let me start by saying that I totally and completely support what Cooper wrote and the direct nature of his words. I couldn’t have said it any better. But I do have a fear of how this will be read, hence me adding my two cents worth.

Do less in a more intentional way and you’ll end up being more effective in the long run! Tyranny Of The Urgent

Last week in the post titled What’s the point? I referenced the idea of the tyranny of the urgent. And as promised here’s a quick rundown of what that looks like and how to better manage the important and urgent portions of life. Before we begin, I must confess. There was a time in my life when I was something called an adrenaline junky. Adrenaline Junkies are dangerous people. We’re dangerous because there’s not a lot we can’t do but we’ll run most people over in an effort to get them done. Additionally, they’re dangerous because they get all fired up and go like gangbusters when they’re pushed to the limit of time and ability.
