What kinds of things define who you are? What kinds of things make your day? What about ruin them? We all have a tendency to put too much weight into one thing and not enough into another. We gravitate to things that provide instant gratification. But what happens when the job is lost or the diet no longer works or exercise isn’t giving us the results we’re hoping! What happens then? What happens when we realize we’ve probably built our lives on simply the wrong things?

This week’s MusicMonday is about where we build our lives. As followers of Jesus it’s easy to say we believe in Christ. It’s easy to say he’s our all in all. It’s simple to mouth the words that our lives are built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. But do we really mean it? I mean, and not to be a downer or anything here but what if our spouse is diagnosed with cancer and it’s untreatable. Will that rock us to the core? What about a friend no longer wanting to be near us or talk to us anymore, will that cause us to go into a tale-spin from which we can’t get out? Or what if we lose the job we’ve had forever and don’t know what to do next?

All too often we build our lives on the things in life that are easily obtained and even more easily lost! We don’t like to talk about it but everyone dies, people get sick, high school crushes often don’t end in life-long commitments, businesses close and people get fired! All of this is, well normal! It all sucks for sure but it’s still normal.

As you listen to this song today remember where you life is built and where it’s supposed to be built. Jesus tells a story about a man who built his house on the sand. After the storm and the wind and the rain were gone, so was his house! But there was another man, his neighbor perhaps, who built his house on rock. The same storm, the same wind and the same rain all beat on his house, yet nothing happened. Sure he lost a shingle on the roof and the porch swing fell off but the house is still standing!

Check your foundation and Build your Life on the only rock that will withstand the storms of life!
